My favorite part of any new place is trying the food. So far on this trip, though, we've been pretty underwhelmed. I think we've just had trouble discovering the right places. In Austin, though, it's impossible to miss good food; it's everywhere! (My kind of city.) So the highlight of this trip (and the thing we planned every other activity around) was the eating.
First things first: donuts! We ate these after (or for) almost every meal.
Amazingly good Thai from Sway (you know we love our Thai!)
Banh mi! The best we've ever had. And served in French cafe style by waitresses in sweet little patterned shift dresses. (I'm going to attempt to make myself one when we get settled.)
Frank! All hot dogs, all good (at least the ones we tried.) I had a Jackalope: a smoked antelope, rabbit and pork sausage with cranberry compote, sriracha aioli, and cheddar cheese. I could have eaten every meal there, just to get a chance to try more of their dogs.
And last, but not least, Burro Cheese Kitchen!! I am a sucker for grilled cheese. I think I once ate it for dinner for two weeks straight. These sandwiches are the best! And I love that they close for a siesta every day. In 107-degree heat, I think the whole city should!
