on exploring the city. and food.

This morning I spent an hour putting together a list of things to do and see (and eat) in DC.  Right now I've got 51 things on it.  In this first month of living here, I've hardly explored at all.  I blame it on our road trip:  after over a month of nothing but new places, activities, and restaurants every single day, I think it felt nice to just be for a little bit.  Also, we were really trying to save money in August, and the best way to ensure I didn't spend was simply for me to not leave home.

But alas, January is looming nearer, and with it comes a new little one...  And I know once he or she is here I will be kicking myself for not getting out as much as possible while I have this freedom.  So I'm getting started tonight.  Jon and I are going to cross El Chucho off the list, a taco place just a few blocks from us.

(As a side note, as I have been making my list I've noticed a pattern of silly Thai restaurant names:  Thaiphoon, Thaitanic...)

The one plus of spending so much time at home this month is that I have been wife-ing it up and have been cooking for the first time in my married life.  And I actually really like it.  So far my menus have been regionally-themed each week (it makes buying groceries much easier.)  This week is South Asia.  This is a picture of the homemade curry with basmati rice that I made last night.  It was killer.  Tomorrow is Nepalese guesthouse chicken with tea-scented lentils.  Pretty impressive for a cook of just two weeks, am I right?

Also, did I mention that it looks like we'll be back in SC to visit just in time for the State Fair?  This makes me indescribably happy.  Deep-fried oreos, corndogs, Krispy Kreme doughnut burgers, vinegar fries, and strawberry lemonade all while seven months pregnant is about as close to heaven as I can imagine right now.
