Jon and I have a little baby boy now! The most surprising thing for me, as I look back on December's pre-baby post? In a way, it feels like nothing has changed at all. This is not what I'd expected to be feeling right now. Yes, yes, this baby has turned life upside down, for sure. Nothing is as simple as it used to be. Nothing.
But.
He has joined our family so seamlessly, so effortlessly. At least that's what it feels like tonight, the eve of my first Mothers' Day, and the day after my twenty-eighth birthday. He was made for us. This little one is a Swearingen-Rooks, through and through (with both the good and the not-so-good that comes with that. Ahem, feisty temper.) In a way, it still feels like us, just as we've been since we became "us" in September of 2012...only with exponentially more love and joy now. So much more.
Ah. I could flower on all night. I'm in the mood for it. But let's talk more facts/less feelings:
Laboring was great! Actually, I'm sure that it wasn't, but I feel nostalgic for it all the time, so there must have been something great about it. Our sweet boy joined us on January 12, a Sunday night (only nine days late!) Watching him grow has been nuts.
I wear this little boy around everywhere. To dinner, to the movies (though once of that was probably enough), to all the stores. In his short life, Lyon has already visited New York City (it only took his mother 27 years to get there.) He's also been to a concert at the Kennedy Center, many museum exhibits, a pro soccer game, and the Saudi Arabian, Iraqi, and Thai embassies. Baby-about-town. It will absolutely break my heart when he's too big to be tied to me and carried around everywhere. He's such a little buddy when I walk with him. I whisper to him all the things that I'm thinking as we go along.
Anyway, such a tiny little intro this post has been. There's a lot more that I want to say to welcome L to this little corner of my world, but it's getting late, and this mama wants to sleep all she can tonight. You're welcome for not waxing on for many more paragraphs. I'll try to be more consistent now. I've missed my little piece of the internet; happy to be back.
