It’s been a while since I’ve visited this space: our lives have become a little more
settled, a lot more similar in the day-to-day, and I haven’t really felt the
need to keep a blog in these past few months. But I do want to get a few thoughts down before baby comes.
It’s amazing how quickly life becomes extremely
uncomfortable in the last few weeks of pregnancy.
Everything feels like a challenge when I have to reach around my bump to
do it. Add to that
pregnancy-related itchy hives all over my body, and an extremely low-sitting
baby, and I’m just ready for this all to be over. It’s good for me to be feeling this way, though, else Jon
and I would be content for him to stay in my belly for a lot longer than he’s
going to.
I’m looking forward to being a mom. There’s still lots more that I wish I’d
done before attaching myself to a dependent little person for the next 18 or so
years, but I have to keep reminding myself that life isn’t over, it’s just
going to be a little more of a challenge now. And hopefully we’ll still be able to travel and explore just
like before.
For sake of the record, I do want to report that Jon and I
have really enjoyed our city these past few months. We finally got to visit Rose’s Luxury, which was one of the
best dining experiences of my life.
Strawberry pasta and lychee salad and popcorn soup and bread with potato
skin butter and foie gras french toast with ice cream.

We visited Jaleo with its foosball table-tables and crazy
amazing tile that made me want to move to Spain forever.
We went back to SC for a baby shower, toured the NPR
headquarters, tried (and loved!) Ethiopian food, watched a Gamelan/Javanese
music and dance performance, and retreated to the Amish-country mountains of
Pennsylvania. We finally found a
neighborhood coffee shop to call home (two, actually), after four and a half
months of searching.
We filled our little studio with Christmas cheer via a tree wall hanging and a balsam & cedar candle.
We're more in love with our city than ever before, more in love with each other than ever before, and anxious to start loving this new member of our family. Despite the discomforts, life feels very magical and surreal right now.
